Train Seat Swapping: Consent, Tickets and Railway Guidance
Understand the difference between a voluntary berth exchange and a ticket transfer, and what to check with railway staff before moving seats.

A seat swap is not a ticket transfer

Exchanging places with a willing passenger is different from transferring or reselling a railway ticket. SeatBadlo does not change the passenger name on a booking, issue a new reservation, or authorize travel without a valid ticket.

Ask railway staff when in doubt

Do not assume that agreement in an app overrides railway instructions. Ask the TTE or other authorized railway staff about restrictions for your coach, class, journey segment, and circumstances before you move.

Consent comes first

Both passengers must be comfortable with the proposed arrangement. Do not pressure another passenger, promise payment, or occupy someone else's seat without agreement. If the arrangement does not work, seek help from railway staff.

Keep your documents and details safe

Retain your valid ticket and identification. Do not publish your PNR, phone number, or OTP in public groups. Confirm the exact seat and coach with your swap partner.

Where to check official information

For current reservation information, consult Indian Railways and IRCTC, or railway staff. This article is general guidance, not an official interpretation of railway rules or legal advice.

SeatBadlo is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or an official service of Indian Railways or IRCTC.
